What is Flashing Blades?
Flashing Blades is an annual end-of-season ice performance organized by the Brant Figure Skating Club. It’s a dynamic skating show where skaters of all ages and skill levels perform choreographed routines to themed music in front of a live audience. The event celebrates the progress and achievements of the skaters, featuring group numbers, solo performances, and sometimes guest appearances by elite athletes. Held at the Brantford Civic Centre, the show combines costumes,music, and creative choreography to create a fun, family-friendly spectacle that lasts about two hours. Its purpose is to showcase talent, build confidence, and foster community spirit among skaters and families.
When is Flashing Blades?
Typically takes place around Easter long weekend. Exact dates and show times are announced closer to the event.
Saturday March 14, 2026, is the confirmed date for Flashing Blades.
Where does Flashing Blades take place?
The performance takes place at the Brantford Civic Centre, 79 Market Street South, Brantford, Ontario
Tickets
Tickets will be available for purchase. Admission prices apply for ALL non-skaters. Ticket purchase information will be made available via e-mail.
How long is Flashing Blades?
The show length is approximately 2 hours in length. This includes a Zamboni flood and intermission break.
Rehearsal schedule for Flashing Blades
Much of the rehearsal for FB will take place during regular staking sessions. The 2 weeks prior to the Flashing Blades performance will involve varied practice times, and parents should be prepared for a flexible schedule. Any changes or updates to rehearsal times will be communicated via email.
Costumes for Flashing Blades
Costume pieces may be covered by the cost of participating in the show. However, families may be asked to supply specific undergarments to complement the costumes, such as turtlenecks, tights, or long-sleeved shirts. Details about these requirements will be communicated in advance.
Who will supervise my child backstage during the show?
Parent volunteers are assigned to each dressing room to help supervise and assist the skaters during the show. They will ensure skaters are tied, guards are on, organize costumes pieces and facilitate bathroom trips.
Canskate & Pre-can skaters
If your child is in the Canskate or Pre-can program they will ONLY skate during the first half of the show. One parent will be responsible for signing them in/out at the show registration table. Your Canskate/Pre-can skater MUST be picked up during the show intermission. Volunteers will NOT be available to watch your skater during the 2nd half of the show.

The Importance of Parent Volunteers
Parent volunteers are the backbone of successful Flashing Blades performances. Your support ensures that every aspect of the event runs smoothly and efficiently. The roles below are essential for creating a safe, organized, and enjoyable experience for skaters and spectators alike. Without dedicated volunteers, it would be impossible to manage the many moving parts of the performances. Volunteers help transform a complex production into a memorable event for the entire community.
Spotlight Operator
Operate the spotlights during the performance to highlight skaters and enhance the overall show experience. This role involves coordinating with the event team using an earpiece and ensuring the spotlight is positioned to the best showcase during each performance.
Note: this role involves standing for the duration of the show. Spotlights are heavy
Flashing Blades Ticket and Program Distribution
Help manage ticket sales and distribute event programs. This role involves handling cash, providing information to attendees, and ensuring everyone has what they need to enjoy the show.
Flashing Blades Dressing Room Assistant
Help supervise skaters in dressing rooms by assisting with costumes, managing skates, and ensuring the skaters are ready for their performances. We will require at least 2 parent volunteers per changeroom.
Flashing Blades Event Setup and Takedown
Assist with setting up and dismantling event spaces for practices and shows. This role involves arranging the curtains, setting up decorations, and clearing the space after events. Your help ensures that everything runs smoothly and efficiently. Note: This role may involve heavy lifting and standing for long periods of time.
‘Many Hands make Light Work’- John Haywood
In the weeks leading to production, many additional jobs become available, and The Flashing Blades Committee may reach out for assistance. Everything from organizing costumes and assisting with rehearsals to helping with setup and decorations. If each parent contributes even a little time, these tasks can be shared easily, ensuring the show runs smoothly and successfully. Every volunteer effort makes a big difference in creating a safe, organized, and memorable event for our skaters and community.
