What is Flashing Blades?
Flashing Blades is our exciting end-of-season skating carnival, where skaters of all levels showcase their skills in a fun, themed performance. This event is a highlight of our skating season, bringing together skaters, coaches, and families to celebrate the progress and achievements of our athletes. It’s a wonderful opportunity for skaters to perform in front of an audience and create lasting memories.
When is Flashing Blades?

Why is it important that my skater participate in Flashing Blades?

Costumes for Flashing Blades
For Flashing Blades, some costume pieces will be provided, while larger or more size-specific items may need to be purchased. Stay tuned for costume announcements closer to the event date, where we’ll provide details on what your skater will need and how to obtain it.
Where does Flashing Blades take place?
Flashing Blades takes place at the Brantford Civic Centre. Depending on facility availability, dress rehearsals may also take place there. Please refer to our communications for any additional details or updates about the venue.
Rehearsal Times for Flashing Blades
Much of the rehearsal for Flashing Blades will take place during regular skating sessions. However, the week before the show will be particularly intense, with a busy schedule that may require parents to be ready to come to the rink at a moment’s notice for additional rehearsals. The Communications Chair will do their best to notify parents as soon as possible about the rehearsal schedule and any last-minute changes. Your flexibility and promptness will help ensure a smooth and successful performance.
How long is the Flashing Blades show?
Flashing Blades is approximately 2 hours long, including all performances and any intermissions. Make sure to set aside enough time to enjoy the show fully!
Tickets for Flashing Blades
Tickets for Flashing Blades can be purchased at the door on the day of the event, but they will also be available for purchase beforehand. Please note that tickets are not included in your skater’s registration and must be purchased separately for each individual show. Be sure to secure your tickets to ensure you don’t miss this special performance!
Who will watch my child if I am watching the show?
Trusted parent volunteers will be assigned to each dressing room to help supervise and assist the skaters. These volunteers will ensure your child is well taken care of by helping them take their skates on and off, find their guards, organize costume pieces, and manage bathroom trips. There will be a sign-in and sign-out process to ensure your child’s safety where only one parent is allowed to sign the child in and out. You can enjoy the show knowing your skater is in good hands.
What if my child is only in half of the show? Can they watch the other half?
If your child is a PreCanSkater or CanSkater and is only participating in one half of the show, you are welcome to sign them out at intermission so they can watch the second half of the show with you. This allows them to enjoy the full experience and support their fellow skaters.
Will there be programs and flowers available for purchase?
Yes, programs and flowers will be available for purchase at the event. Programs will feature information about the skaters and the show, while flowers can be a special way to celebrate and congratulate your skater. Keep an eye out for these items at the venue!
Will there be video available for purchase?
Yes, USBs with the video file of the show will be available for purchase. This allows you to keep a memorable record of your skater's performance. Be sure to get yours to relive the highlights of Flashing Blades!
How can I help out with Flashing Blades?
You can help out with Flashing Blades by volunteering in various roles, such as assisting in the dressing rooms, managing costumes, or supporting event setup and takedown. Operate the spotlight during the Flashing Blades performance to highlight skaters and enhance the overall show experience.
